LAS ONDINAS

En la región oculta de las ninfas
El sesgo rayo a penetrar alcanza
Y alumbra al pie de despeñadas linfas
De las ondinas la nocturna danza.
¡ Pero mirad! son vaporosas sombras
las que en la oscura selva se deslizan.
¡Ah! no temáis no son aterradores
fantasmas de otros tiempos son ondinas;
mirad cómo se abrazan y confunden
cómo raudas por el aire giran,
apenas tocan con el pie ligero
del prado la mullida superficie.
Ya se avanzan... girando en la espesura
o se sumergen en las ondas límpidas;
y al compás de una música que suena
como el lejano acorde una lira
elévanse, empujadas por el leve
viento que sus cabellos acaricia...

The ONDINES
In the hidden region of the nymphs
the slanted ray to penetrate reach
and illuminate on the foot of fall over lymphs
Of the ondines the nocturnal dance.
